Policy governing the use of endowment contributions:
It is intended that only the income will be used from the invested funds, allowing each fund to grow from future gifts and bequests and to become a permanent endowment for the support of the Milan Public Library.

The intent of the person or persons establishing each fund shall be adhered to in the expenditure of its proceeds.

The investment of fund moneys shall be in the safest type of instruments and as prescribed by law for public institutions and always with the fund's preservation and growth in mind.

It is further intended that no part of these moneys shall be used for the following purposes: general day to day operating expenses of the library such as salaries, heat, light, phone, supplies needed for normal operations, new construction or major renovations to the building.

Income shall be prudently used by the Board of Trustees to enhance and promote the best in library service to its patrons.

• Carol A. Mohr/Margaret Walls Memorial Fund for Children and Young Adults, est. 1997

For the purchase of equipment, furnishing, books and electronic equipment or any other items needed primarily in the Children's and Young Adults departments of the Library

• Mildred N. Sheehan Milan Public Library Book Fund, est. 1997

For the purchase of new books and/or videos each year

• Millard F. and Marie A. Phillips Milan Public Library Endowment Trust, est. 1997

For new programs development, enhancement or upgrading of old programs, enhancement and expansion of materials in the Genealogy Collection, resource material and electronic equipment for use by the general public.

• Milan Public Library General Purpose Enrichment Fund, est 1997

This fund income shall be used for the general improvement of the Milan Public Library in all public areas.  It may be used for the purchase of fixtures, furniture and other equipment that shall benefit the public and make the library more user friendly.  It is for use in the purchase and installation of electronic equipment where needed in the public service areas of the library.  It is for the purchase of new technology on a continuing basis as new developments occur.  It shall be used for the general improvement of all departments of the library that are used by the public on a day to day basis and to establish new areas of interest for public use as needed in the future.
